Great American Smokeout 2013
Did you know that in June 2013, the CDC reported that 43.8 million (19%) of Americans smoke cigarettes and that cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the US? This means that one in every five deaths in the US is smoking related.
The Great American Smokeout is an annual event held on the third Thursday in November by the American Cancer Society. This year, the Smokeout will be held on Thursday, November 21. The event encourages Americans to stop smoking tobacco products for the day. The hope for this program is that participants will cease smoking in its entirety.
The Smokeout has been taking place for over 30 years and the ACS has been partnering with the community to help raise awareness. At Aria, we offer wellness programs to help you quit, for good. The Aria Cancer Center, offers low dose CT scans to assist with early lung cancer detection. We are dedicated to improving the health of our community and are proud to offer this service.
For additional cancer prevention and care information, the Cancer Center section of our website provides the comprehensive resources that you and your family need. Remember, our signs of caring can be found everywhere.
